A WINGS' Mom's Brave Choice for Life

Five hours old and both are smiling!
Natasha's story is one of courage and determination.

Natasha comes from the Caribbean, having worked as a nanny here in Canada for the past few years.

Last fall, Natasha discovered she was pregnant.  Without residency status or family support, Natasha struggled without income or access to health care.

When contacted, Marion offered shelter to Natasha, willing to provide the support and care needed for this brave choice for life.

Then shortly after she settled into WINGS, Natasha was informed that her child may be born with Down's Syndrome. Devastated by the news, Natasha still refused medical counsel to abort, believing God's purpose for her daughter was worth the fight. With courage and trust in God, Natasha carried her daughter to full term with the loving support of the WINGS Community.

With kind generousity, the Oshawa Community Health Centresupported Natasha's medical care throughout the pregnancy.

Dr. Gregory Althaide graciously cared for Natasha as an obstetrician without charging fees.

The rest of us watched and waited to see what God would do with these two beautiful lives.

Finally, many days overdue, Anastasia Shania arrived April 3rd at 12:49 pm, weighing 8 lbs and 4oz and 21 inches long!  With Marion at her side through the three long days of labour, Natasha clearly rejoiced to see her healthy daughter!  The Lakeridge Maternal Newborn Team offered Natasha excellent care throughout this arduous delivery and by the next day, Mom and baby settled back into WINGS to the joy of Marion and the WINGS residents.

Please pray for Natasha as she continues with her application to gain residency in Canada and adapts to her role as a new mom to Anastasia.  This young champion has stood for life with dignity and courage.  As the WINGS Community stands with Natasha, we rejoice and celebrate the birth of her beautiful healthy daughter, Anastasia Shania.
