Our doors are always open while you WAIT for the delivery of your beautiful NEW LIFE...We will INVEST in you and your unborn child... We will NURTURE your development as you embrace your new role as "Mother".... We will walk alongside you as you GROW and develop your independence and learn to SOAR on your own and help you to get established into your own nest.

W.I.N.G.S. Maternity Home is a registered non-profit interdenominational faith based organization located in the Durham Region established in February 2009. It is a safe home for young women in need of a loving & nurturing environment during their time of pregnancy and up until they are ready to move onto independent living.

Our Mission is to shelter and educate homeless, pregnant and parenting young women by assisting in providing comprehensive services that empower them to make successful life decisions for themselves and their babies.

Our home provides food, clothing, individual counselling and help to facilitate a way for the girls to receive medical care, childbirth/parenting classes, mandatory participation in education at our NEST (WINGS home school), or job training, practical life skills lessons and independent living skills training.

W.I.N.G.S. Home's mandate is to help the "mommy to be"  break the potential negative cycle associated with teen pregnancy: Abortion, High risk births with premature and low birth-weight babies, Interrupted education, repeat teen pregnancy, Poverty, Dependence on public assistance and Child abuse and neglect in the next generation.

We also liaison with other charitable, non-profit community and government agencies and organizations to improve the quality of life of these young women by referral to, or help in creating new solutions if a need arises for supportive services.

WINGS Maternity Home began in February 2009.  After raising my own 4 daughters as a single mother, my heart was drawn to the young women who needed a "mother", who needed love, assurance and who needed to learn they had a purpose.   I myself grew up as a foster child and was adopted at 15 years old.  I struggled with a sense of belonging, of "knowing who I was and did I have purpose?".  I married as a teenager and in those 17 years of marriage, gave birth to four beautiful daughters.

In 2009, I opened my own home to house PREGNANT young women of (all ages) who were in need of a safe place to call home.  We have had many different walks of life come through our door: Women who have come off the streets addicted to drugs or alcohol.  Women who had just been released from jail.  Women pressured into abortion but have chosen LIFE and this choice caused them to lose their own families.  Women who are referred to us by agencies in the Durham Region and other areas of Ontario.

Some of our moms just need someone to believe in them, to give them a chance to prove that they can be a great mom.  Some of our moms come with a 24/7 supervision order.  I can say that 99% of our women leave our program as successful and wonderful MOTHERS to their little precious ones.

Finally, we teach our moms about God's UNCONDITIONAL LOVE through the kindness and support they receive by our volunteers and team at WINGS. Love changes everything for our moms.

WINGS Maternity Home is not a government funded program.  We solely depend on the generous kindness of the churches and the community of Durham to help us.  In January 2012, I felt it was time to move into full-time ministry with WINGS to serve these young women.   God has been so very faithful to us.  Please consider giving to this powerful ministry which stands for life and sees families changed forever, as together we stand for LIFE with shelter, support and education of pregnant mothers.

How is W.I.N.G.S. funded?

W.I.N.G.S is a registered non-profit organization. We are not funded by the Government of Ontario or Canada.. The house is funded by Marion Cozens, the founder and the generous donations of friends, family and local churches. We are also thankful for the generous kindness of the community to donate clothing and baby essentials.

The women who come to live at W.I.N.G.S. are assessed individually and are required to pay a small fee each month based on their income, which varies from one woman to another. No mother will be turned away if she has no income or is unable to pay the fee.

W.I.N.G.S. Criteria

In order for a pregnant mom to come to W.I.N.G.S she must:

  • Be Pregnant & without other children in her care
  • Be willing herself to come into this home
  • Free from Drugs, Alcohol and Smoking
  • Willing to live in accordance with the house rules
  • Committed to work on goals of self-improvement
  • Understand that our Program is Christ centered
  • Completing Schooling or Seeking Employment

How long can the moms and babies stay?

Moms at W.I.N.G.S can stay with us through their pregnancy and work to complete their high school diploma here at our Registered WINGS community day school called The Nest. Some of our moms may require a longer stay. Each individual will be assessed based on their circumstances.

How do I apply?

The resident application form is found on our Contact page and can be downloaded from there.

What happens to the moms once they leave W.I.N.G.S. Home?

Throughout their stay at W.I.N.G.S. the mother is asked to set and achieve her goals. (ie. furthering her education, finding a job, saving money). Therefore when it is time for a woman to leave W.I.N.G.S, she has prepared herself to move on to independent living.
